Waltz Through Walls is an advanced vibraphone solo that conjures the haunting charm of a broken music box. Written in waltz time, the piece drifts between delicacy and unease, evoking the ghostly remnants of childhood lullabies and forgotten toys. The work calls for extended vibraphone techniques, including simultaneous mallet dampening and slide dampening—where the performer must strike one note while sliding to silence the previous pitch. These demands, combined with the instrument’s resonant shimmer, create a sound world that is at once fragile, eerie, and otherworldly.
